Christiane Amanpour has announced that she will be leaving CNN next year after over 43 years at the organization. The iconic journalist, who is an expert in international affairs, will be stepping away in June 2027.

Born in London on January 12, 1958, Christiane Amanpour's family moved between Tehran and England during her early years. Due to the revolution in Iran in 1979, they moved to the US. Amanpour then studied for a BA in journalism at the University of Rhode Island.

In 1983, she joined CNN as an assistant on the international network. However, she grew into the role rapidly and covered the Gulf War in 1990-91. She also covered the Bosnian War and many such major events.

On Monday, October 19, Christiane Amanpour revealed her decision to step down during her show, Amanpour, on CNN. She stated:

“I wanted to give you some news about myself and about this show. After thinking carefully for several months and experiencing a few sleepless nights, as you can imagine, I’ve decided to separate from CNN, my partner of 43 fantastic years, longer than many marriages!”

“...Now there’s no ‘I’ in team, and my whole career has been ‘teamwork to make the dream work.’ So, I want to thank all the amazingly talented people I’ve worked with throughout this incredible journey, especially my beloved show teams and field crews,” she added.

She explained that the CNN show will be phased out until June next year. It will air once a week from January 2027 until May, before it ends. Her daily show on CNN and PBS, however, will end in late December this year.

Christiane Amanpour has been a huge name in the international affairs journalism industry for over four decades now. She has reported on various wars and conflicts in places like Rwanda, Afghanistan, Ukraine, and Iran, among others.

Moreover, she often used a phrase in her shows:

"Remember: always be truthful, not neutral."

In her statement on Monday, Christiane Amanpour further wrote:

"From my very first big, exciting assignment covering the first Gulf War to the horrors of the Bosnian war, Rwanda, Afghanistan, Iran, Ukraine, and all the points in between, it is the teams and the camaraderie we built that counted so much as we together battled to find the facts, to bring you the evidence, and the humanity, so that CNN could always broadcast the truth about the world, without fear or favor."

"Now you know, I’ve always been fiercely independent and I will continue to be that for you for as long as I am here and beyond. That’s especially important today as we face unprecedented pressures from all sides: political, financial, and also from the rising dangers in the field," she added.

Christiane Amanpour married James Rubin in 1998, and they had a son together named Darius John Rubin in 2000. The couple then split in 2018. However, they co-host a podcast named The Ex Files, and Amanpour has confirmed that it will continue, despite her leaving CNN.
