- DC's *The Authority* movie has been shelved.
- Studio co-head James Gunn said "the script wasn't quite there" and "it didn't work in terms of the larger DCU."
- "Maybe some day. Not soon," he wrote on Threads.
DC's *The Authority* movie, based on the comic book squadron known as "the anti-Justice League," is officially shelved for the time being, studio co-head James Gunn confirmed on Monday.
The film was first announced in January 2023 as part of Gunn's overall vision for the DCU across TV and film. At the time, he described it as "a big movie" and "a passion project of mine."
"The script wasn't quite there but more importantly it didn't work in terms of the larger DCU both in terms of the story and practical concerns," Gunn wrote in a post on Threads. "Maybe some day. Not soon."

The filmmaker, who's currently at work filming the *Superman* follow-up *Man of Tomorrow*, also clarified an internet rumor by stating that he "never had an intention of writing or directing *The Authority*."
Created in 1999, the Authority comics were published under the WildStorm imprint. Described as a collective of "cynical, brutally pragmatic superheroes," the original team members included figures like electricty-inclined Jenny Sparks, solar-powered Apollo, enhanced ex-soldier Midnighter, Earth-based sorcerer the Doctor, the winged Swift, and alien abductee Jack Hawksmoor.

The group also included the Engineer, who was portrayed in the DCU by María Gabriela de Faría via last year's *Superman*.
Back in that original 2023 announcement, Gunn said the Authority would "interact with all of our primary DCU characters." They "think the world is broken and they want to fix it by any means necessary," he described. "I think it's a very different look at superheroes."

Of all those titles signaled three years ago, *Creature Commandos*, *Superman*, and *Peacemaker* season 2 already premiered. The *Woman of Tomorrow*-inspired *Supergirl* movie and the HBO *Green Lantern* series are now on the docket to debut this year.
In a separate Threads post, Gunn confirmed the *Booster Gold* TV show "is in development," while the Themyscira-set drama *Paradise Lost* "is in extreme development."
And the plan continues to evolve, as we've seen with the developments around a live-action horror film about Batman baddie *Clayface* (coming this Oct. 23), animated projects like the *Mister Miracle* series and the *Dynamic Duo* movie, as well as the Jimmy Olsen TV spinoff.
