What makes an It item It? It's funny how sometimes, after a debut has been critiqued, street style looks have been laid to rest in an image gallery, and red carpets are but distant glamorous memories, the residue gathers around the most special things. We may not remember every look of every collection, but we recall pieces that made us feel something. We notice repetition. We remember buzz. A mix of these elusive factors that births fantastical items we remember long after the year has closed.
2025 saw a number of items shape the fashion conversation. Rubber flip flops had us reimagining the formality expectations of footwear in a modern wardrobe. Mrs. Prada's fanciful aprons forced us to think about the role of runway subversion. And British designer Conner Ives thrust trans rights even further into the mainstream conversation with his "Protect the Dolls" T-shirt. Ahead, we've charted the 16 items that shaped the fashion conversation this year.
Havaianas Flip Flops

After The Row debuted their $600 variety, rubber flip flops entered the zeitgeist. Then, their Havaianas counterpartâat a much more approachable price pointâreached their apex at Copenhagen Fashion Week this past August. The Scandi girls, always ahead of the trends, wore theirs with everything from little dresses to corduroy pants to track shorts.
Juju Vera's Petra Necklace
Juju Veraâs Petra necklace was a staple among the fashion insiders this year. It was hard to go to a holiday party without seeing these silver shells around someoneâs neckline. The style taps into a few trends at the moment: a general shift towards silver jewelry, a desire for long pendants, and a reverence for designs art deco in feel, making it a fashion-approved purchase for 2025.
Kendrick Lamar's Superbowl Celine Jeans
Gregory Shamus
Kendrick Lamarâs choice of trouser for this yearâs Superbowl Halftime show polarized audiencesâbut more for its silhouette than its fabrication. He paired his Martine Rose varsity jacket and black T-shirt with a pair of flared jeans from Celine. The jeans caused such a stir on social media that they clocked in as Lystâs hottest product of Q1.
Labubus
Edward Berthelot
You couldnât escape Labubus in the first half of 2025. Popmartâs fuzzy creepy-cute plush toys jumped onto handbags all over the world. They were all over the international slate of fashion weeks. Even Naomi Osaka clipped a bedazzled one to her bag at the US Open.
Miu Miu's Aprons

Miuccia Prada loves to subvert an archetypal trope. For Miu Miu's spring 2026 show, she took on the classic ensembles of housewives, more specifically, their aprons. But these were no ordinary aprons. They were patterned and embellished, paired with silk scarves, fancy jewelry, and funky footwear. And they sparked quite the conversation around these sorts of tropes on the runway.
Dries Van Notenâs Unexpected Sarongs
Alessandro Viero - LAUNCHMETRICS SPOTLIGHT
Julian Klausner debuted for Dries Van Noten to much aplomb. For his first menswear collection, he added a series of long sarongs or pareos to a variety of ensembles, contrasting structured tailoring with their tropical prints. This came on the summerâs wave of silk scarves slung around every It girlâs waist in town.
The Marty Supreme Nahmias Jacket
Neil Mockford
The whole Marty Supreme press tour has been a lesson in unconventional marketing, but the jacket that TimothĂ©e Chalamet designed with Nahmias has achieved a cult following in its own right. Together, their pop-up drew hundreds of people who waited in line for hours in downtown Manhattan for the chance to snag one for themselves. It hasnât hurt that the jacket has now been worn by countless celebs including Hailey and Justin Bieber and Kylie Jenner.
Charvet x Chanel Shirts
Carlo Scarpato
Nestled in Matthieu Blazy's debut show for Chanel was a collaboration to end all collaborations. The storied fashion house worked with Charvet, a decades-old French shirtmaker, to create beautiful shirts with crispy cotton embellished with pearl buttons. Charvet has long been a Parisian pilgrimage for fashion insiders, but this felt like it brought the brand even further mainstream. Though the collab might not be available yet, Charvet shirts certainly areâthough hopefully it doesn't do too much to inventory or prices.
New Celine Jazz Shoes

Michael Rider made a buzzy debut for Celine this summer, tagging his resort presentation onto couture week. We gawked at the skinny jeans, lusted after the uniquely tied scarves, and, most poignantly, longed for the laze-up ballet shoes he showed with a number of outfits. He had shoppers eagerly awaiting the times when those shoes would hit the racksâor turning to Repetto for similar styles.
Conner Ivesâ "Protect the Dolls" T-shirt
Mike Marsland
At the end of his Fall 2025 show, Conner Ives wore a T-shirt emblazoned with the phrase âProtect the Dollsâ in support of trans rights he tossed together the night beforeâand it was an instant success. So much so that Ives continued to produce the T-shirt and worked with Trans Lifeline, a trans-led US- based charity that delivers life-saving services to those who need them most, to donate the proceeds of the sales. It has since been worn by numerous celebrities including Pedro Pascal and Addison Rae.
The Oasis Bucket Hat
Avalon
The Oasis reunion tour certainly defined the earlier portion of 2025. Through a fashion lens, Liam Gallagherâs Kangol bucket hat, a key part of his iconic look dating back to the â90s, also cast its own influence. The new tour resurrected the style, making it popular once more amongst nostalgic attendees.
Chan Luu's Toe Ring

This was the summer of the toe. Numerous jewelry brands launched fabulous toe rings to decorate the feet of their clients including Aflalo and Chan Luu. Tessa Tran, creative director of the latter brand, has released a series of them, including the Caprice with a Swarovski crystal.
The Polarizing J.Crew Pink Sweater

Itâs fascinating what people will debate. Last month, J.Crewâs pale pink fair isle sweater angered some shoppers for one particular reason: it was designated for men despite its apparently feminine nature. Regardless, it's now sold out.
Chanel's Quarter Zip

At his Chanel debut, Matthieu Blazy elevated the quarter-zip from a finance bro trope to the high fashion runways (though it, of course, went through many steps in between). He had us reconsidering all the preconceived notions around this wardrobe archetypeâas corresponding discourse ensued on social mediaâand granting permission for the style-minded to incorporate one into their own closets, even though you can't buy this specific one yet.
Dior Men's Military Jacket

Jonathan Anderson's debut for Dior launched a million conversations, but one item in particular took off immediately. The Louis XVI frock coat, since worn by celebrities (male and female) on red carpets and magazine covers, he showed for Dior men spawned a resurgence of the early 2000s military jacket trend.
Puma Sneakerinas
This year, sneakers got visibly slimmer, as evidenced by the resounding sneakerina trendâthe love child of a sneaker and a ballet shoe. Pumaâs ballet style Speedcat was a favorite in this category.
