Stephen Colbert has a plan for dealing with his frequent critic, President Donald Trump.
When asked whose body he would like to slip into for 24 hours this month at a 20th anniversary event for Slate's *Political Gabfest*, the host of *The Late Show With Stephen Colbert *was quick to say Trump's.**
"It's such a predictable answer for me, but I would slip inside the skin of our president," Colbert said.
Predictable, perhaps. But why? "I would resign."

The Emmy-winning host then elaborated on his choice.
"No scandal, no confession," he said. "Just go, 'It's been great. I'm the best ever. I'm going to go out on top. It can be a glorious ending.' Just end it."
Colbert added, "I have a harrowing follow-up question: Is he taking over my body for 24 hours?"
*Political Gabfest* cohost John Dickerson said he predicted that Colbert might say Trump.
After all, Trump has slammed the star repeatedly, famously when Colbert announced in July that his show, which is part of a franchise that has existed since David Letterman was at the helm in 1993, would end in 2026.
Colbert took over the TV staple in 2015.
"I absolutely love that Colbert' got fired," Trump posted after news of the show's departure. "His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert! Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined, including the Moron on NBC who ruined the once great *Tonight Show*."

To that, Colbert, who has not taken the criticism quietly, had a short response.
"How dare you sir?" Colbert said on his show. "Would an untalented man be able to compose the following satirical witticism?"
He then spoke into a camera labeled the "eloquence cam" to deliver his next words: "Go f--- yourself."
Trump has continually clashed with late-night hosts, including not only Colbert but Kimmel and the unnamed Jimmy Fallon, while in office. But that hasn't deterred them from going after political leaders, including him and the people in his administration.**
