Reese Witherspoon cautioned against scammers using her likeness on social media

Witherspoon said "it's so upsetting that people would use my name to manipulate people, but I want you to know that I would never, ever manipulate you"

The scammers are going "into people's DMs, and they try to build a relationship, they try to extract personal information, plan meet up times," according to Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon is calling out scammers using her likeness on social media.

In a video shared on TikTok on Wednesday, Jan. 14, Witherspoon, 49, cautioned fans against engaging with fake accounts posing as her. "Hey, this is important," the Big Little Lies star began the video. "I want to just tell you what I've been dealing with for the past 24 hours."

"There are multiple people on TikTok and Instagram impersonating me, and they go into people's DMs, and they try to build a relationship, they try to extract personal information, plan meet up times," Witherspoon explained of the scam.

"I want you to know, this is not me. And it's so upsetting that people would use my name to manipulate people, but I want you to know that I would never, ever manipulate you," Witherspoon said, noting that she "would never reach out to you for money, for private information, to create a meet up time."

"So please look at these accounts that are doing this, and make sure they're verified," Witherspoon added.

"If somebody's talking to you, this is not just me. This is happening across the board, but it's really upsetting to me that this is happening on such a large scale. So please be careful out there, and please know, I would never, never reach out to you to manipulate you or take anything from you, okay," the Legally Blonde star concluded the video.

Witherspoon is the latest celebrity to warn fans to be wary of online scams. In June 2025, Helen Mirren urged fans to ignore messages from an email address, which she says used her name to "front a fake charity."

Sandra Bullock, Johnny Depp, and Tom Hanks have also issued similar warnings to their fans in recent months.
