Prince William became a social media sensation earlier this week when he let a fan adjust his selfie pose during an unexpected visit to London.

The Prince of Wales thrilled royal enthusiasts as he engaged with spectators outside Buckingham Palace for a special Cricket on the Mall event on Tuesday, October 20, in support of his groundbreaking Earthshot Prize.

However, it was one particularly bold exchange that really captivated admirers. The future King headed straight for the supporters who had assembled to meet him, and in his characteristic manner, he snapped multiple selfies with them. It comes after Prince William's selfless act was revealed amid Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's first outing since returning to the UK.

In an amusing turn of events, a royal fan passed the prince her mobile phone, only to quickly grasp his arm and lift it higher to guarantee they achieved the ideal angle for the photograph.

Rather than taking offense, a grinning William handled it with complete grace. The supporter was subsequently spotted speaking animatedly with his security team as the Prince continued down the line to welcome others.

Royal enthusiasts spotted the endearing moment and shared their reactions on social media. One user wrote on X, "The king of selfies strikes again." Another one added, "Prince William is loved, just like his mother was [heart emoji]. He is the real deal, and people know it."

A third one chimed, "Prince William is so charming!" prompting someone else to point out, "So natural when chatting to people. Little wonder he's loved by the public."

"Not a leap that he is Diana’s son. You can see her influence all over him. She would be so pleased with him. She wanted him to be the best King he could be," raved a fifth. Elsewhere on social media, a sixth fan jokingly stabbed, "Totally worth the 23 million he costs us," referring to taxpayers' money.

Tuesday's outing marked William's first public engagement since it was announced that Harry and Meghan would step out in Nottingham on Thursday, October 15, for several engagements. It was their first joint outing since returning to the U.K. in August.

However, William and his wife, Kate Middleton, are reportedly not trying to compete with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Sources have told Vanity Fair, "It's no coincidence that William and Catherine are doing more together."

The insider added, "They want their roles to be very clearly separate from what Harry and Meghan are doing, and the brief from them is to stay focused on their work and causes and not be distracted by anything else. They are making their presence felt and at a time when it matters."

While Harry and Meghan have returned to the U.K., they are not working royals, as King Charles made clear in a letter reiterating their status as private individuals.

According to one palace insider, William and Kate were "derailed" by Harry and Meghan’s sudden relocation back to the U.K. last month. "William is still pretty furious about the whole thing and has had no contact with his brother," the source said. "He won't have Harry's name mentioned in his presence."
