Netflix has unveiled a first glimpse at its forthcoming Little House on the Prairie series
The streamer has announced the show's release date and revealed that it's already slated for a second season
“I’m incredibly grateful to our wonderful cast and crew, who put their hearts and hard work into making our first season come alive,” showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine said
Little House on the Prairie is making its way to Netflix this summer. And there's already more on the way.
On Tuesday, March 3, the streamer announced that its long-awaited reboot is slated for a July 2026 release. Netflix also shared an early glimpse at what the show has to offer with a first-look image of the Ingalls girls running alongside a covered wagon.
The update comes over a year after the streamer revealed the adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s semi-autobiographical books back in January 2025, with the show having been in talks for several years.
“I’m incredibly grateful to our wonderful cast and crew, who put their hearts and hard work into making our first season come alive,” showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine told Netflix's Tudum in a statement.
She added, “We can’t wait to share this new adaptation of the Little House books with the world, and we’re thrilled that Netflix is giving us the opportunity to continue the story.”

Jinny Howe, Netflix’s head of US and Canada scripted series, called the series "beautiful" in an additional statement and said the streamer was "delighted" to already renew it for a season 2.
"The exceptional work by Rebecca Sonnenshine and the entire cast and crew on season 1 has established a rich foundation of storytelling for years to come," he said. "With its hopeful spirit and emotional authenticity, we’re confident that Little House will deliver even more of what fans truly love.”
The show will star Alice Halsey as Laura Ingalls, Skywalker Hughes as Laura’s older sister, Mary, Luke Bracey as Laura’s father, Charles Ingalls, and Crosby Fitzgerald as Laura’s mother, Caroline Ingalls. The streamer previously announced the new faces set to bring the iconic Ingallses to life back in May 2025.
Per Netflix, the adaptation will offer a "kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier." It will be “part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale and part origin story of the American West."

Executive producers include Sonnenshine, Joy Gorman Wettels for Joy Coalition, Dana Fox and Susanna Fogel and Trip Friendly for Friendly Family Productions — whose father produced the series and TV films that ran on NBC in the '70s and '80s, per Netflix. The new series is produced by CBS Studios and Anonymous Content.
The latest iteration of Little House arrives over 40 years after the Little House on the Prairie series wrapped on NBC in 1983. The show ran for nine seasons starting in 1973 and starred Melissa Gilbert, Michael Landon, Karen Grassle and Melissa Sue Anderson.

As for if fans can anticipate any original series star in the new show, Netflix has not confirmed if the show will feature appearances from any of the '70s cast. Still, Alison Arngrim, who played Nellie Oleson, told Entertainment Weekly in 2020 that she’s “just the right age to play Mrs. Oleson.” She later told ReMIND in 2025 that "none of us, as far as I know, our gang, are in at this point."
During a Q&A session in December at a 50th anniversary celebration for the show, Trip Friendly and daughter Rebecca Friendly discussed the new series and raved about the the "brilliant" Halsey, who plays Laura.
"She just turned 11 years old, and she is so mature, so talented," Rebecca said. "She just has really fully embraced the character of Laura. And I think, in my opinion, you all are going to be excited to see her step up to the plate."
Original series star Gilbert previously told PEOPLE in February 2025 that the remake will “hew closer” to the books than the original series did.
“There's a lot of information and beautiful stories to mine from the actual writings of Little House,” the actress said. “There's no reason to go off-roading and adding characters that didn't exist. There's plenty of people in the Little House world that still haven't been talked about on our version of the show.”
Little House on the Prairie will premiere on July 9 on Netflix.
