- NBC host Sara Gore announced her breast cancer diagnosis live on air during a Thursday broadcast.

- The host of the real estate show *Open House* and the entertainment show *New York Live *admitted, "If I didn't say that I was a little bit scared, I'd be lying."

- Gore's mother and sister have also been diagnosed with breast cancer, she said, before explaining she'll be stepping away for "treatment and surgery."

Sara Gore is stepping back from NBC New York after 16 years following a devastating diagnosis.

"We have shared all kinds of things together on this show over the years," the host of the real estate show *Open House* and the lifestyle and entertainment show *New York Live *began an emotional address during Thursday's broadcast. "But today I want to share something a little more personal."

Gore proceeded to announce, "I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and I'm going to be stepping away for treatment and surgery. If I didn't say that I was a little bit scared, I'd be lying."

More than just afraid, Gore admitted to feeling "caught off guard, quite frankly. Which makes no sense, because I watched my mother and sister go through this, and I always assumed I was high risk, and I always assumed this day would come. But let me tell you, you are never ready."

Gore detailed the "emotional blow" of the diagnosis, made all the more shocking after "doing everything right."

"But I also know I am exactly where I need to be, and I'm surrounded by incredible doctors, and people who are taking such good care of me at home," she continued, emotion breaking through her voice, and tears welling in her eyes. "And at work, thank you to my family here. I feel loved. I feel very supported, and as hard as this is, I choose to believe... that maybe there is a gift in this, even if I don't fully understand what it is yet. I'm working on that part."
