Nancy Sinatra is honoring the life and legacy of late French film icon, Brigitte Bardot.
After Bardot's death at the age of 91 was confirmed on Sunday, Dec. 28, Sinatra took to social media to pay tribute to the late actress, an international sex symbol who later quit acting to devote her life to animal rights advocacy.

While sharing a throwback photo from Bardot's younger years, Sinatra wrote via Instagram on Sunday, "I was heartbroken to awaken to the news that the gorgeous Brigitte Bardot has left us."
"When I was a teenager, I idolized her," Sinatra, now age 85, continued. "Her innocent sexuality—paired with slightly messy hair and those unmistakable pouty lips—made her an icon."
"The movie Dear Brigitte is a perfect example of her sweetness and charm," Sinatra continued, referring to the 1965 American comedy film starring JamesStewart and Bill Mumy, in which Bardot made a cameo appearance as herself.
While going on to remember Bardot's legacy, Sinatra wrote, "Her style continues to be emulated, but there will only ever be one B.B."

"Godspeed, dear Brigitte. My deepest condolences to her family and to all who loved her," Sinatra's post concluded.

Bardot's death was confirmed on Sunday by Bruno Jacquelin of the Brigitte Bardot Foundation for the Protection of Animals. Jacquelin told the that Bardot died while at her home in southern France.
"The Brigitte Bardot Foundation announces with immense sadness the death of its founder and president, Madame Brigitte Bardot, a world-renowned actress and singer, who chose to abandon her prestigious career to dedicate her life and energy to animal welfare and her foundation," read a translated announcement on the foundation's official Instagram account on Sunday.
"The Brigitte Bardot Foundation wishes to pay tribute to the memory of an exceptional woman who gave everything and sacrificed everything for a world more respectful of animals. Her legacy lives on through the actions and struggles that the Foundation continues with the same passion and the same fidelity to her ideals," the statement continued. "We extend our deepest condolences to her family, her loved ones, the municipality of Saint-Tropez and its residents, and to all those who share this cause. The Foundation will continue, now more than ever, to carry on Brigitte Bardot’s work."
Details regarding Bardot's cause of death have not yet been made public.
