It’s *baaaaaa*-d news for *The Bear**.*

Just as Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) had finished plating a perfectly cooked lamb chop to be delivered to the restaurant’s star attendee, a quick flicker of the lights distracts the chef just enough for the dish to slip through his fingers and shatter onto the floor.

The disaster shocks everyone in the kitchen — most of all Carmy, who appears almost catatonic after the accident leaves them unexpectedly down a meal with no leftover meat and no back-up plan.

“That was the hero moment. That was like, ‘I got this,’” White tells **. “The Carmy we’ve met, who's on top of everything, a perfectionist… It was the last plate to go out to the last guest and it's just devastation. I think in that moment he feels like he has truly ruined everything.”

While dropping the dish may have felt like “the end of the world” to Carmy, White believes that the accident taught his character a crucial lesson about the importance of being able to lean on his fellow chefs, especially newly appointed head chef Sydney (Ayo Edebiri).

“I don't think Carmy takes help easily. I don't think he takes support,” he adds. “It was an opportunity for him to accept that from the people around him and it was a beautiful moment of these people being very gentle with him in a moment that they know is crushing.”

After taking a beat to console a shaken Carmy, the team gets service back on track with some quick thinking from Sydney, who recommends that Tina (Liza Colón-Zayas) whip up some of her Brussels sprouts for the star table while they brainstorm a new course.

Colón-Zayas tells EW that Tina feels intense “pride” that it’s her dish that saves the day. “Tina put in the work. She's up all night. And to have this opportunity just present itself out of necessity, emergency, and be able to step up for that… Tina's ready,” she says. “She's finally got the confidence.”

She continues, “She did the work to be ready, but also to be there for everyone. It's not just about me, you know? It’s to keep our family together.”

It's also not the only fire that the team has to work together to extinguish during service, with Carmy later coming in clutch with a creative culinary solution after they run out of brioche for their dessert.

Colón-Zayas credits Carmy's leadership over the past four seasons with helping to prepare them for such a high-stress situation. “I feel like we were able to pull together and figure out the steps very quickly because of what you instilled in us,” she tells White.

In return, Carmy's fellow chefs have taught him something, too.

“I feel like Carmy, like all these characters… they see the best in each other, even though it's very difficult for them to see the best in themselves,” White says. “And so the whole series has really been about witnessing these beautiful things in one another, and just allowing, like. space for those things to come up.”

He adds, “Even if these characters really don't always have the best opinions of themselves, that's where the trust comes from, and that's how they rely on one another.”

The final season of *The Bear* is streaming now on Hulu and Disney+.
