Rob and Michele were found dead in their Brentwood home on Dec. 14. Jake's sister Romy discovered Rob's body and alerted the authorities, who would then find Michele's body.
Jake and Romy's brother, Nick, was later arrested and charged with murder in connection to their deaths. He has been in custody since at Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown Los Angeles.
He pleaded not guilty to all charges in February, where he also waived his right to a speedy preliminary hearing. No bail was granted. In June, Nick requested access to a $1.5 million trust fund established by his parents to pay for the defense in their homicide.

In April, Jake penned a heartbreaking essay on Substack, recounting the night his parents died and the unrelenting grief he has experienced since.
"My world, as I knew it, had collapsed," he recalled in his essay. "I was in a trance. The only thing I could focus on was that I needed to get to my childhood home. I needed to get to my sister. I needed to figure out what the hell just happened."
Jake continued, “I was robbed of so many things that day. My parents won’t be at my wedding, they won’t get to hold their future grandchild, and they won’t get to see me have the successful career I’m still seeking. It simultaneously breaks my heart and enrages me."

He added, “Nothing can prepare you for what it feels like to lose both parents instantly at the same time. It’s too devastating to comprehend. I still wake up every morning having to convince myself that, no, it’s not a dream. This truly is my living nightmare.”

Jake also noted how it was "almost too impossible to process" having his brother Nick at the "center" of the family tragedy. "We lost more than half of our family that night in the most violent way imaginable," Jake wrote.
"Sure, any loss of a parent is devastating, but nothing compares to losing both of them at the same time and, on top of that, having your brother be at the center of it," he shared. "It's almost too impossible to process."
Nick's next court appearance is set for Sept. 15.
