Prime Video announced The Summer I Turned Pretty movie hours after the third and final season aired in September
Casalegno and castmates Lola Tung and Christopher Briney are set to reprise their roles in the movie, with author Jenny Han set to direct and write it
The Summer I Turned Pretty fans will have to wait a little longer for the upcoming movie.
While speaking with PEOPLE at the Elle Actors Rising event in Los Angeles on Thursday, Feb. 26, Gavin Casalegno, known for playing Jeremiah Fisher in the hit Prime Video series, gave an update on when fans can expect to see the movie.
“I’m going to be so honest, I don’t even have a script,” Casalegno, 26, says. “So I don’t even know when we’re filming.”
“It’s going to be like game time,” he continues. “Like Jenny Han calling me up and [being] like, ‘Hey, by the way, you’re going to be on a plane in a week.’ So, we’ll see what happens.”
The actor admits he has “zero clue” what the movie’s storyline will be, though he says he’s “sure” at least “one of the fan predictions is correct.”

After the beloved series, based on Han’s best-selling romance novel trilogy, concluded with its third and final season on Sept. 17, Prime Video announced a feature film was in the works.
“There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due," said Han, who will return to write and direct the project, in a press release. "I’m so grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support my vision for this story and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans."
Amazon MGM head of film Courtenay Valenti and Vernon Sanders, Global Head of Television at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, also commented on the news in a press release.
“The Summer I Turned Pretty has struck a chord with audiences everywhere, creating moments of joy, nostalgia, and connection that have made it a global sensation,” their statement read. "We’re proud of the series' extraordinary success and couldn’t be more excited to partner again with Jenny Han to bring fans an unforgettable next chapter."

Though the official synopsis of the movie has yet to be released, the press release noted that the film will serve as a conclusion to the story.
During an appearance on the Today show alongside Lola Tung (who plays Belly), Christopher Briney (who plays Jeremiah's brother Conrad) and Casalegno in September, Han teased what fans can expect from the movie, saying there will be “another big milestone for Belly, so we’ll continue with that journey.”
When asked what she could tease about the film, Tung said, "I mean, not much. We've known for a little bit, but it's fun that it's finally out there in the world.”

The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 concluded with Belly choosing Conrad over Jeremiah after navigating a complicated love triangle between the two brothers throughout the series.
As for Jeremiah, the season concluded with him exploring a new romance with Denise (Isabella Briggs), whom he’d been living with in Boston for the last six months. With the upcoming movie, the future of Jeremiah and Denise may be explored.
"I think it's a little early for Jeremiah to be jumping back into a relationship," Casalegno said in a September interview with PEOPLE, referring to his character's engagement to Belly and their almost-wedding.
"Obviously, they've been living together for a little bit, and you learn — you spend a lot of time with [that] person, but genuinely, I think it might be too early for that."
"But who knows?" he added.
The Summer I Turned Pretty is available to stream in full on Prime Video.
