Erling Haaland has unveiled a dramatic new look after cutting off his trademark blond locks.

The Manchester City striker revealed his new buzzcut hairstyle on Sunday morning ahead of his side’s Premier League opener at home to Bournemouth later in the day.

ā€œShort hair, don’t care,ā€ he posted on Instagram alongside a range of pictures to plug the latest episode for his YouTube channel, which has over four million subscribers.

Later in the episode, Haaland calls Pep Guardiola to get the former Manchester City manager’s opinion on the dramatic transformation.

Haaland, 26, has not sported short hair since his time at Borussia Dortmund, where he played three seasons before joining City in 2022.

Haaland removed his hairband during a 4-1 win over Arsenal in 2023 on a raucous night at the Etihad as City beat their title rivals to move one step closer to winning the league. There will be no need for one now, though, with a close-cut look to mark a new campaign.

It is a new-look City in more ways than one this term with head coach Enzo Maresca looking to kickstart a new era following Pep Guardiola’s exit.

Maresca is hoping for an immediate return to form in City’s Premier League opener after a chastening 3-0 defeat by Arsenal in the Community Shield last week.

So far, only Elliot Anderson has arrived but Maresca is hopeful the club will be active in the transfer market. Rodri has left for Barcelona while Savinho is closing in on a move to Tottenham.

ā€œI’ll try to find a new Rodri – it is what it is,ā€ the former Chelsea manager said. ā€œRodri, before he arrived here, he didn’t win the Ballon d’Or, he didn’t win the Champions League, he didn’t win the Club World Cup. Then he joined the club and then after he achieved many important things. Now the target for us is to try to find the new Rodri.

ā€œWhen David Silva was here, everyone was worried - Kevin [De Bruyne] arrived. When Sergio Agüero was here, everyone was worried – Erling [Haaland] arrived. When Ferdinando left, Rodri arrived. It’s just about this.

ā€œWhen they leave, you need to be good and recruit the next one. They are all similar – David, Kevin, Fernandinho, Rodri, Agüero, Erling. It’s just normal, it’s a change. It’s not a problem, just go again and try to do the right things.ā€

Maresca added: ā€œHopefully we can do the things that we need to do,ā€ Maresca said ahead of Sunday’s Premier League opener against Bournemouth. ā€œIt doesn’t help that there are players that for different reasons want to leave, this is for sure.

ā€œBut we need to adapt and we don’t want to keep players here that don’t want to stay.

ā€œThe normal thing in transfer windows is that you have to wait because all the clubs try to keep players until the last week and then sell for more money.

ā€œIt’s normal, I’m not worried about that. When the transfer window closes and we have all the squad there, for sure it will be different.ā€
