Director Edgar Wright concluded his Three Flavors Cornetto trilogy with The World's End, which celebrates its 13th anniversary.
In September 2004, the Spaced filmmaker took Hollywood by storm with the first installment of the British horror-comedy Shaun of the Dead. As the zombie apocalypse takes over, Shaun (Simon Pegg) buys a strawberry-flavored Cornetto ice cream cone as a hangover cure. Then, in March 2007, Wright followed up his horror hit with action comedy Hot Fuzz. The visual gag appeared in the police car, where officers Danny (Nick Frost) and Nicholas (Pegg) eat blue Cornetto ice cream before heading out on patrol.
On August 23, 2013, Wright concluded the series with the action-packed sci-fi comedy, The World's End. This comes after Jeff Goldblum's body horror transformation in The Fly celebrated its 40th anniversary.

The World's End follows the immature Gary King (Pegg) as he breaks out of a mental asylum. Gary brings his childhood friends, including Andy (Frost), back together to recreate their youth. The estranged group intends to complete the Golden Mile, a bar crawl that includes 12 pubs in their small town of Newton Haven.
Before he can set his sights on the final pub, The World's End, Gary starts to notice something odd about the residents of Newton Haven. Gary and the others encounter several other androids and fight them off.

As the pack dwindles to Gary and Andy, the last two meet with The Network (voiced by Bill Nighy), the alien mastermind who promises eternal youth. Gary rejects the offer, preferring individuality over conformity.

After abandoning its invasion plot, the Network delivers a worldwide pulse that cuts off all electrical power on Earth. Andy realizes the price of free comes with a high cost.
The trilogy ends with Andy bursting into tears as a wrapper from a green mint chocolate chip Cornetto flies into the air.

In an interview, Wright discussed the final installment of his trilogy. He explained why there are only three Cornettos in the series, despite there being so many flavors.
"There are so many, but this is the final in the Cornetto," he told Playlist back in August 2013. "In the U.K., there were only three flavors, and you can see in the movie why it’s over.
"We give it finality at the end," he closed. “All three of the Cornetto movies could lead to sequels, but those are best left to people’s imagination.”
The World's End has an 89 percent critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes.

One reviewer said, "All of the performances are fantastic. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, who have carried this trilogy, are incredible, and they know how to play off each other."
Another reviewer added, "Like what Wright, Pegg, and Frost did for horror and action, this third entry into the Cornetto Trilogy similarly lampooned while also paying tribute to the sci-fi genre, while also delivering plenty of heart."
A third wrote, "This is more ambitious than Wright and Pegg’s previous pairings, daring to go a little darker and take on the arrested adolescence and the frustrations of adulthood."
