Crumbl closing locations across US, but Ohio still has over 40 stores

Crumbl Cookie had a successful run after the pandemic, but the chain is closing stores as sales sag. Still, several Ohio locations remain.
Following a successful run post-pandemic, the prominent cookie chain Crumbl Cookie has run into trouble. The company has been scaling back, shuttering locations across the U.S. and laying off employees.
Here's what we know.
Crumbl's sales have declined over the past two years
In July 2025, Crumbl CEO Jason McGowan presented data indicating that the chain's dirty soda lineup would lift sales 20% and boost unit volumes to $2 million. Instead, chain traffic dropped 32% over the year, with sales in August down by 70%, according to Restaurant Business.
This year, 57 of Crumbl's locations have shut down, and operators warn more locations may close.
In May, McGowan expressed plans to step down and name a new CEO in an effort to reevaluate.
Crumbl's success followed after the pandemic
Crumbl's sales took off after a viral surge in 2021, with $1.7 million in sales and more than 17 million combined followers on Instagram and TikTok.

With its rotating lineup, high demand, minimalist pink branding, and embrace of third-party delivery, the cookie empire broke out, with sales soaring while operators struggled to keep up.
By 2023, Crumbl was the largest cookie chain in the country and generated more than $1 billion in system sales just six years after McGowan and his cousin, Sawyer Hemsley, founded it in 2017.

Crumbl locations are closing nationwide, but there are currently 1,064 locations nationwide. That includes 10 stores in the Cincinnati area as well as locations in and around Akron, Columbus, Cleveland, Dayton and Toledo:
