The actress revealed on Late Night with Seth Meyers that she was barefoot in a field when the insects got to her

Ali Larter got a bit antsy on the Landman set.

The actress, who stars in the Paramount+ hit as Angela, revealed during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Wednesday, Jan. 14 that she was bitten by fire ants while on set of season 2 — but she didn't let it ruin the scene.

While filming a scene barefoot with costar Billy Bob Thornton for the Taylor Sheridan drama, the actress encountered a rather tiny problem (or problems) in a "wide open field."

"It's the end of the day, you know, we have a huge crew, it's high pressure," Larter, 49, recalled of the environment. "And we are like rushing to get this shot. And it's supposed to be one of those epic Texas sunsets where the egg drops."

She added, "I'm standing there in this wide open field, barefoot, jean shorts and they're rushing, rushing, rushing. And I hear 'Action!' And I'm standing there and I'm looking at the horses and all of the sudden I feel something crawling between my toes."

That "something" turned out to be "fire ants biting my toes," she told host Seth Meyers.

"But then I feel Billy coming up behind me and I'm like, 'I just have to live through this.' So I lean to him, I go into the scene and I do the scene with him," Larter said. "And all the sudden, I hear, 'Cut!'"

Director Stephen Kay then ran up to the actress, telling her that she was "so emotional" and "connected" in the scene. "And I'm like, 'I'm crying because I was getting bit by fire ants!' And I was scared they were gonna yell at me because they weren't gonna get the shot," she joked.

After confirming that she got "welts" from the ordeal, she added, "This show takes a toll on this bod."

The series, which was inspired by the real-life oil boom in West Texas and stars Thornton, 70, as oil man Tommy Norris, debuted its second season in November before being confirmed for a third installment.

Speaking with PEOPLE at the 2026 Critics Choice Awards on Jan. 4, Larter revealed that she snagged souvenirs from the set to bring home (and no, she left the fire ants there).

“I took the Leddy's cowboy boots, and I have the Agent Provocateur bra from episode seven,” she said of the luxury shoe and lingerie brands. “What else did I steal from her? Oh, a good pair of Wranglers. I have some jeans — got to have them.”

Larter told PEOPLE in November that taking on the role of Angela was a “freeing” experience.

"Angela walks through life without the fear of judgment of others. She makes up her own rules. And for me, that's so exciting to play, because I'm not like that," she said of the character. "And you really can't be like that in most areas of life if you want to fit into the societal norms."
